Dr Laura Goodwin
Senior Lecturer in Mental HealthResearch Overview
I am a Senior Lecturer in Mental Health and I conduct research on the comorbidity of mental health and alcohol use disorders, with specific expertise in understanding the complexity of these issues in trauma exposed population, such as in military veterans. I am experienced in managing MRC, ESRC and charity funded projects as principal investigator and I have supported capacity building of early career staff and students, for example in gaining external PhD funding through the Society for the Study of Addiction and ESRC. I hold a number of external management roles, including as an Associate Editor at Social Psychiatry and Psychiatric Epidemiology, Psychology co-lead at the Liverpool Centre for Alcohol Research and I am an Affiliate Member of the ESRC Centre for Society and Mental Health at King’s College London.
PhD Supervision Interests
I am interested in supervising students in the areas of mental health and addiction research, with particular expertise on the co-occurrence of mental health and alcohol/substance use disorders. I have broader interests related to public mental health, health inequalities, multimorbidity and veterans' research.
